Hamilton Fish Armstrong was born April 8, 1893, in the house on West 10th Street in New York City where he lived all his life. Following his Princeton graudation in 1916, he worked for the New Republic until he entered the army during World War I. At war's end, he served as a military attache to Serbia which kindled his lifelong interest in foreign affairs.
